A Key Role in Canada’s Largest Mental Health Hospital
In Toronto, Equans Services operates and maintains the technical systems of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the largest teaching hospital in Canada specializing in mental health and addictions.
The company is committed to delivering optimal energy performance and reliable infrastructure to ensure comfort and safety for patients and medical staff.
Since 2019, under a contract with Ontario’s Ministry of Health, a team of Equans experts has been maintaining the buildings delivered in 2020, as part of a major investment plan aimed at modernizing psychiatric care and reducing patient stigma.
Real-Time Technical Monitoring
In CAMH’s control room, technicians continuously monitor the operation of critical systems:
- Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)
- Medical equipment, including oxygen and suction systems, elevators, lockers, clocks, and emergency sinks
This centralized management ensures maximum responsiveness and a fully functional hospital environment at all times.
Enhanced Hospital Security
On this sensitive site, security is a top priority. Equans Services manages:
- Access control and video surveillance
- Nurse emergency call systems
- Technical management of event rooms, libraries, and teaching spaces
Each staff member has a security badge that can be activated in case of an incident, ensuring the protection of caregivers, visitors, and patients.
Energy Optimization and Sustainable Performance
CAMH, with a surface area of 646,000 ft², is equipped with a Building Automation System (BAS) that monitors and reduces energy consumption. Rooftop equipment provides heating and cooling, even during extreme winter conditions of -40°C. Backup batteries ensure uninterrupted service in case of power failure.
Thanks to these innovations, the hospital’s energy costs and carbon footprint are reduced while maintaining optimal comfort.
Looking Ahead
A new expansion phase of CAMH is underway, with delivery expected in 2028, offering Equans Services the opportunity to further expand its role in the modernization and energy efficiency of hospitals in Ontario and across Canada.
