Montreal, February 9, 2026 – Equans, a global leader in multi-technical services, unveils the results of an international study on data valorization, conducted in partnership with L’Usine Nouvelle and L’Usine Digitale (Infopro Digital). The study surveyed 980 decision-makers across six countries (Canada, United States, France, Belgium, Netherlands, and United Kingdom).
Designed to understand how organizations evolve from 'well-managed' data to performance-driving data, the study reveals that Canada stands out as one of the world's most advanced countries in transforming data into measurable results, thanks to a highly operational, pragmatic approach.
Canadian Organizations Don't Just Secure Data, They Unlock Its Value
Canada has excelled at every stage of data management: collection, protection, and governance. The study confirms that Canadian organizations have established clear governance frameworks that secure data effectively.
The result is remarkable: more than one in two Canadian organizations actively exploit the majority of their data, positioning Canada at the forefront globally. These organizations convert collected data into strategic decisions, operational efficiency, and measurable business results. Data is no longer merely stored; it's activated, shared, and leveraged for decision-making. This advanced maturity distinguishes Canada on the world stage, particularly when compared to the global average where only 45% of participating organizations utilize more than half of their collected data.
Strategic Acceleration: Canada's Pragmatic Approach to Data Value
Canada demonstrates global leadership in data utilization, with 55% of organizations actively leveraging more than half of their data, the highest rate worldwide, ahead of the United Kingdom (54%) and United States (52%). Moreover, 67% of Canadian organizations characterize their data initiatives as operational rather than experimental, another leading indicator. Canada's distinctive profile reflects strategic discipline: a steady, progressive standardization of data practices rather than technology-driven hype.
How Canadian Organizations Deploy Data:
- Operational Management (50%): Data powers operational monitoring, aligning Canada with the world's most advanced nations
- Service and Product Enhancement (53%): Organizations leverage data for personalization, process optimization, and quality improvement
- Strategic Decision Support (45%): Data enables predictive analytics, strategic planning, and scenario simulation
This maturity is built on sustainable adoption rather than technological "quick wins", creating a robust foundation for advanced capabilities. The result: 40% of Canadian organizations already employ AI to maximize data value, positioning them at the forefront of the next wave of innovation.
Data Maturity Drives AI Success: Canada's Strategic Advantage
AI advancement depends fundamentally on data maturity. In Canada, AI is progressing on a solid foundation: secured data assets, quality-controlled processes, measurable internal data sharing, and deeply embedded Business Intelligence tools. This infrastructure enables Canadian organizations to approach AI as a logical progression of established data strategies, generating measurable value rather than pursuing speculative outcomes.
The study reinforces a critical principle: AI delivers sustainable business impact only when built upon data that is unified, shared, and governed. In the absence of this foundation, the research demonstrates that AI doesn't close organizational capability gaps, it magnifies them.
"Only 45% This study confirms that in Canada, the challenge has shifted from simply protecting or organizing data, to fully activating it to drive performance. This maturity creates particularly fertile ground for AI, which becomes a natural extension of already-solid data strategies. At Equans, our ambition is to help clients reveal the value of their data, sometimes invisible, by transforming it into operational levers. What makes our approach unique is our dual expertise: we're grounded in field operations through our multi-technical capabilities while also being digital experts. This combination allows us to capture data where it's created, aggregate it intelligently, and transform it into concrete action, whether optimizing infrastructure, modernizing industrial environments, or strengthening the competitiveness of public and private organizations."
